Does Bonjour Kids test for cadmium?
Our cacao comes from the Dominican Republic, an origin known for lower cadmium levels than other parts of Latin America.
We publish all of our contaminant test results on our website. The analyses are carried out by Phytocontrol, an independent COFRAC-accredited laboratory, which shows how seriously we take quality.
On cadmium specifically, here are the facts:
The cacao in our Kids flavour contains 0.27 mg/kg, well below the EU legal limit of 0.6 mg/kg set for cocoa powder.
What really matters is how much is actually consumed. One mug of Bonjour Kids is 6 g of product.
To give you an idea: one mug of Bonjour Kids provides around 1.6 µg of cadmium, roughly the same as two slices of white bread (80 g) or 55 g of potatoes. According to Anses (the French food safety agency), bread and potatoes are in fact among the main contributors to cadmium exposure in France, simply because we eat them every day.
We chose certified organic cacao to rule out any pesticide residues.
